  • Day 42/130
    (progress shots, day 35/130)

When we went out to the house this weekend only to discover that the house next door (on the uphill side) is a huge monster of a thing!

    See:

and from the backyard from the 'other neighbours side' you'll see a stick in the ground (near the big pile of earth) that is the back boarder of our property, so as you can see the monster house goes as far back on their property as it can be!

If you are looking for me next week I'll be reading 'Inside Out" (a trendy house/garden mag) trying to find solutions to keeping our backyard private!

On a brighter note, the house has been painted throughout, (the same colour as you can see in the kitchen) as well as the tile floors/and splash backs in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry. I think there is also a basin/cabinet in the laundry, however I didn't see that, I'm going on Ross' word.

We also have a new retaining wall, between the houses and all the brickwork has been completed.

In non house news, I posted the slides from 'Janet' into the National Works on Paper Acquisition-Exhibition-Competition-Thingie today.

It doesn't matter what happens now, I actually posted them in, that's a big step for me!

This is Janet, if you haven't already met her:

  • I quite like the finished Janet.

  • It looks like things are moving right along with the new place! To keep the neighbours out, just breed rattlers.

    I love Janet!

  • Damn, they're building fast!  Are they trying to get it all done before the cold season or something?

I don't know what native hedge plants you have to work with down there, but my mom has made a nice privet hedge work for us in the privacy department.

    A dog helps too.

  • libertyvalance: rattlers! heh!

dee, it looks so great! you're going to have such a calm, peaceful space. I love it! all those lovely walls. here's an odd question: what IS on your walls? what does an artist hang on her walls? i'm really curious!

glad to see the home taking shape. thanks for sharing it -- it's very exciting!

  • Bamboo can make a great hedge and it grows damn fast... hmm, is Oz too dry for bamboo perhaps?

It'll be easy to give people directions, you can just say that you live "next to the monster house". We have lots of those here too.

  • I'd rather have the small house myself. And just plant a couple of stratigically placed trees in the yard. Before you know it (probably by next year) the view will be blocked.

Or just do like me, and lie out nude. Give the neighbors a show!

  • May Janet rock the world!!! -- Lise

  • Missed Janet before, nice!

And wow on the house!  About 1/3 done!

  • i love seeing the house progress.

    and i want janet's hair!

  • Whack up some trellis on the top of the fence and cover it in some quick growing jasmine. Pretty, smells nice and hides you away from the neighbours!

  • The house is looking good. Don't forget to add some trees.
