  • The New Zealand Maori often use a a shape in their art called a Koru.

I've been using the shape in a lot of my art recently, because now that I am not in my country, the traditions and culture that I once took forgranted now means more to me.

Symbolically the koru means new beginnings, harmony, growth and life.

Western culture believe this shape means love, and the two shapes lend themselves to each other.

I've used the combination before in my art, firstly in a painting done while pregnant with TK, and then in this painting, the first I ever sold (in a fund raiser for the New Zealand AIDS foundation.

Here is my 3rd attempt -- originally for a 'new baby' gift for a friend who isn't into cuddly and cute, although I like the idea, I'll rework it before I give it to her.

    Any feedback for the re-work?

  • Oh wow! I love this! The symbol, its meaning and your rendition of it! --Lise

P.S. -- Re-work? Why? Looks great to me as is.

  • I like it's simplicity. I like to think of the background as a womb ... maybe that's what you meant?

  • I'll see LibertyValance and raise him an idea.

It looks to me like a family, two doting parents curled around their little one.

    Lovely stuff!

  • beautiful

  • Wow. It's completely FABULOUS. It's simply and yet beautiful.

    I'm awestruck. (Once again.)

  • two big spermies nurturing a third little spermie? (nice change for me from my phallic symbol obesession) (not usually confronted by penises in your work i confess deevaa - no need to imagine penises where the nipples are already poking one in the eye

    love the colours! fabulicious!

  • I love these practice pieces. I'd like to see the gold leaf in "person" sometime - maybe I'll just have to shell out the bux, eh?
