  • I tempted the Hermit Crabs out with Mango last night -- but they only came out after we'd gone to bed, the only way I can tell they've been up and about is by the fact that they've re-arranged the whole tank!

oh well - at least they are ok.

Today we went into the city, we brought our tickets for 'the Two Towers' (in the deluxe cinema on Monday) and had a wee spend up on art supplies, they didn't have the Windsor and Newtown Artists quality paints I normally use, so I've brought a new brand. I hope they are good or else I'll be mad!

Speaking of art *cough* here is a bit of poetry I wrote yesterday. Its been a long time since I wrote, so it pretty much sucks:

    Who needs poetry?
    Dec, 2002.

I'm in the kitchen, cooking breakfast wearing nothing but one of your old work shirts,
Which seems too clichéd for poetry.
You are in bed, reading about Hulk Hogan's life.
Nothing much poetic about that either.
    (but I'm smiling)
    (sort of)
    You are grumpy.
    Always grumpy in the morning.
So I've left you alone so that I can cook, and eat and so that we don't fight on one of our few mornings alone.
Christmas is one of the most stressful times of the year
And we don't need to be fighting about
    What-ever-it-was-that-we-were-fighting-about.
    By the way
how exactly did those little 90 percent joking barbs
Get turned into 90 percent bitter along the way?

So I'm in the kitchen, wearing your shirt.
Cooking garlic bread topped with blue brie and bacon.
And drinking coffee and planning on doing absolutely nothing all day.
And I'm wondering about poetry and love ... And...
And how a romance goes from poetry inducing to 'to comfortable for words'
    In only a year.
    But god-damnit-all I'm happy.
And we have fun. And comfortable.
And passion (when the mood strikes us).
And do I really need poetry and flowers?
when I have this old shirt and cooking breakfast on the rare morning that we are alone?
    I'm content.
    and Happy.
    ah, who needs poetry anyways!

  • Now this really puts the visual images to work. Almost as good as your paintings!

  • I'm not a poet, so I guess I don't understand poetry as well as I should... but I love this.  Sometimes I think poetry is for the angst-ridden, and the rest of us are too busy enjoying life to write poetry.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  • An old work shirt and comfortability sounds grand to me! Happy New Year to You and Yours!

  • I love it. It speaks true to what you were feeling and the flow of it is good.

  • Cute .. and true .. enjoy the holidays !

  • No. It does not suck. I love the details.

  • Hear! Hear!

  • i liked the poem too.  because it wasn't high-falutin   i went to see LOTRII on Boxing Day...I was already exhausted, so the main thing i took away was "very, very long," (the queue to get in, the movie itself...etc) oh, and Legolas looks better than ever, of course .  Mangos for the crabs?  wow, lucky crabs.  my mum bought a whole box to take away with us on holidays in NSW...but we forgot to bring them.  so now that we're back in Melbourne, it's mangoes everywhere, all the time.
