Blood...
I've been feeling really, really tired since the miscarriage, the doctor said that I had 3 reasons for feeling tired, the blood loss, the general anesthetic, and the fact I went back to work on Tuesday, which she felt was too early. (But the doctor at the hospital only gave me a medical certificate for Monday.)
She sent me for a blood screen, and my blood counts say I lost the equivalent of 4 pints of blood. The 'normal' range is from 20 - 350. Mine was 22 (down from 190-something when I last donated blood) if it had of dipped below 20 I would require a blood transfusion.
So now I am severely anemic... *sigh* I am to take iron supplements and eat a diet that is high in both iron and B12 for at least 4wks.
I googled diets for high in iron and B12, and discovered that Japanese food tends to be high in both, Miso, Tofu and seaweed are all good.
Good thing I like Miso soup!
So, I brought two types of Tofu, but I couldn't find Miso paste at my local supermarket... anyone got a good Tofu recipe? (one that doesn't require Miso paste.)

I can't stand the texture of tofu, but I've heard you can pop it in a blender with lots of fruity goodness and make a decent breakfast smoothie. I plan to try it when/if I ever get a blender.
When I was pregnant and anemic (as opposed to the not-pregnant and still anemic I am now), a friend recommended that I slip spinach into dishes whenever and wherever I can get away with it. Lots of iron, and it bulks up a dish in a healthy manner. I've tried it with a red tomato sauce so far, and it was ok.
Or you could just have fresh spinach salads topped with nummy grilled fish.
Dammit, making myself hungry again...
OK the comment box keeps jacking up my links. So, sorry for the copy and paste job but here goes

Good luck to you,a nd lots of love and light to you and your family. I hope you're feeling better soon hon.
Red meat is still the best source of iron but, personally, I'm a fan of spinach. Deep fried tofu is a bit like fish in texture... not as healthy as not-deep fried tofu but much more palatable.
