  • OK, so I'm being stupid.

And I know I'm being stupid but that doesn't change anything.

Everyone in the house has picked up the latest strain of whatever bug is going around. Whenever I get sick my asthma plays up.

This morning Argyle said... "OK, I'm taking you to the doctors and getting you on the nebuliser."

    I say "No, I'm fine."

He says "Your not fine, why won't you let me take you to the doctor?"

... and the sad fact is, I don't want to go on the nebuliser (a machine that gives asthmatics medicine to help them breathe) because the drugs make my hands shake, and right now I'm in the middle of a painting. I can't spend 4 days with shaking hands.

So, does anyone out there know of any alternitive treatment for asthma - one that won't interfer with my ability to paint?

  • ...sorry to read you and yours are not well. I don't know of any asthma treatments but I sure the doctor knows of serveral. I wil Argyle on this one. Wishing you well soon. MuSe

  • yes it involves a concoction of eye of newt and scale of toad..seaweed and some bakers chocolate...well, not really...i have asthma..i use an inhaler..i also take this medication called clariten..i don't know if it's available out there..but it works like a charm.good luck babe

  • the medication most often used in a nebulizer, is albuteral, which is most often, the same thing that is used in an inhaler, and it effects everyone differently. two of my kids have asthma and use both, inhaler and the nebulizer when it's bad.. one is affected, one is not. however, i would suggest that you ask your dr. for a preventive medication, to help you build up your lungs so that you may not need the steroids so much. for example, singulair. it's a pill you take once a day. hopefully lessoning how often you would need a treatment. it's working for my family. i wouldn't ignore it, your man is right. the painting will be there, but why risk your health to a point that you end up worse? take care..

  • Sorry about your health not being so great right now.

  • Definitely talk to your doctor honestly about your concerns.  He or She should know all the alternatives, and if you don't think he or she seems to know - find another doctor.

    Good luck.
