• Picking Secondary Schools

  Over the past few weeks TK's Dad, Ross and I have been deciding on which Secondary School to send TK to. We found the zoned public school completely uninspiring, so we started looking into private and semi-private schools in our area.
  
  The closest semi-private (Christian) School in our area has a great reputation, but unless you enroll your child really early there isn't much chance that you'll get in. We put TK on the wait list for 2010 midway through 2008 and we've been told that unless he gets in on scholarship*, there isn't much chance that he'll get in.
  
  *sidenote: We signed TK up for the scholarship exams, the exam was a few weeks ago. The morning of the exam TK woke up with the worst sinus infection. No warning signs, just fine one day, really sick the next. I felt so bad packing him off to 4hrs worth of exams. Poor kid.
  
  We don't know when we'll hear how he did. /sidenote.
  
  We did tours to two other schools.
  
  One is brand new and still being built, Ross called it 'the General Hospital' school... it was very sterile looking, lots of white walls and windows. It's a private school run by a company called ICA (Independent College Australia).
  
  The other is an older school. It's a very small Christian College, and plans to stay that way. It has some really interesting philosophies, and the 4 of us decided that it was our number one choice.
  
  We filled in the paperwork, and after a week or so we received a letter in the mail inviting TK in for an interview with the Principal. The night before the interview, TK's dad rang him and gave him some advice for the interview.
  I asked TK what Dadda's advice was he said "Dress neatly, brush my teeth and be concise."

  Principal: "So you go to your father's house every other weekend? How do you get there?"
  
  TK: "We go along the freeway, go through the tunnel, over the Westgate Bridge and turn right as we come off the other side."

  Me: (During a conversation about responsibilities) "TK is a Library Monitor at his current school."
  TK: "Actually, I resigned today."

  Principal: "What is your absolute lest favourite subject?"
  TK: "There isn't a subject I really don't like. Maybe Literacy. Except I really love to read and write stories."

  Me: (in the car on the way home) "How do you think you went?"
  TK: "Good!"
  

  Me: "I think you did well too. There where some places when you could have taken Dadda's advice and been a bit more concise."
  TK: "I don't even know what concise means."
  Me: "That's something you should have told me yesterday."
